State Restrictions

  • Hawaii - It is legal to posses pepper spray in Hawaii but there are some restrictions. Pepper Sprays must be used for personal self defense - it must be Pepper only and contain no Tear Gas or combination of Pepper and Tear Gas - must have a "Flip Top Safety Top" Click For Example Product

    The sale and/or use of any Stun Gun or Stun Gun type device i.e. Taser is prohibited in Hawaii. Self Defense Superstore cannot and will not ship any Stun Gun or Stun Gun Type Device that falls under Haw. Rev. Stat 134.1: "Electric Gun = any portable device electrically operated to project a missile or electromotive force."
  • Massachusetts - If you live or plan to live in Massachusetts, you will need to apply for a permit to carry/possess Mace and/or Pepper Spray. Self Defense Super Store CANNOT ship Mace or Pepper Spray products to any address in Massachusetts without proof of a valid FID#. Persons wishing to have Self Defense Super Store ship Pepper Spray or Mace products to them in Massachusetts must have a valid FID#.

    You will want to apply for a "Firearms Identification Card-Restricted" (mace and pepper spray). Once you have been approved and have your FID (firearm Identification Card) you may call our office at (561) 799-9237 to place your order. Your FID# will be recorded with the sale and kept on file for up to 10 years.

    The sale and/or use of any Stun Gun or Stun Gun type device i.e. Taser is prohibited in Massachusetts. Self Defense Super Store cannot and will not ship any Stun Gun or Stun Gun Type Device that falls under Mass. Gen. Laws Ann. Ch. 140 sub 131J. Electrical weapons, to Massachusetts.
  • Michigan - It is legal to posses pepper spray in Michigan but there are some restrictions. Pepper Sprays must be use for personal self defense - must contain no more than 10% OC and canister size cannot contain more than 1.2 oz. This Law was Revised December 2010.

    The sale and/or use of any Stun Gun or Stun Gun type device i.e. Taser is prohibited in Michigan. Self Defense Super Store cannot and will not ship any Stun Gun or Stun Gun Type Device that falls under Mich Comp. Laws 750.224a Portable device/weapon directed electrical current.
  • New Jersey - The sale and/or use of any Stun Gun or Stun Gun type device i.e. Taser is prohibited in New Jersey. Self Defense Super Store cannot and will not ship any Stun Gun or Stun Gun Type Device that falls under N.J. Stat. Ann 2C:39-1. Weapon = Stun gun, emits an electrical charge or current intended to temporarily or permanently disable a person.
  • New York - The possession by persons who are not felons or who have not been convicted of an assault, 18 or over for the protection of person or property and its otherwise lawful use is legal. The definition is "a pocket sized spray device which contains and releases a chemical or organic substance which is intended to produce temporary physical discomfort or disability through being vaporized or otherwise dispensed in the air."

    There are certain labeling requirements. Sales require both a seller's license and the completion by a purchaser of a registration form. New York residents may only purchase from licensed Firearms Dealers or licensed Pharmacists in that state. No more than two sprays may be sold at any one time to a single purchaser.

    So What is Legal? Anyone can carry a Pepper Spray designed to protect them against the threat of an animal attack. Canine Repellent

    The sale and/or use of any Stun Gun or Stun Gun type device i.e. Taser is prohibited in New York. Self Defense Super Store cannot and will not ship any Stun Gun or Stun Gun Type Device that falls under NY Penal Law 265.00 Weapon = Stun gun, emits an electrical charge or current intended to temporarily or permanently disable a person.
  • Rhode Island - The sale and/or use of any Stun Gun or Stun Gun type device i.e. Taser is prohibited in Rhode Island. Self Defense Super Store cannot and will not ship any Stun Gun or Stun Gun Type Device that falls under R.I. Gen Laws 11-47-42 Weapon = Stun gun, emits an electrical charge or current intended to temporarily or permanently disable a person.
  • Wisconsin - It is legal to posses pepper spray in Wisconsin but there are some restrictions. Pepper Sprays must be used for personal self defense - must contain no more than 10% OC and canister size cannot contain more than 2 oz.

    The sale and/or use of any Stun Gun or Stun Gun type device i.e. Taser is prohibited in Wisconsin. Self Defense Super Store cannot and will not ship any Stun Gun or Stun Gun Type Device that falls under Wis. Stat. 941.295 Electric Weapon = Intended to be used, offensively or defensively to immobilize or incapacitate persons by use of electrical current.
